Fertő-Hanság National Park Lake Neusiedl Hungary

Lake Fertő/Lake Neusiedl is located in western Hungary on the Austro-Hungarian border. As the westernmost steppe lake in Europe, it is an exceptional natural treasure. The lake is overgrown with dense reeds in many places and is home to many rare plant and animal species, including the Great White Egret. This majestic and graceful wading bird became the heraldic animal of the region and the Fertő-Hanság National Park, and even gave its name to the center of the park in the village of Sarród: Kócsagvár.

A visitor and event center has been built on the site of the ferry port of the former traditional fishing village, where visitors can linger between their explorations on land and water. Hungary's most extensive reed canopy complex recalls the structure of an old fishing village: from here you can explore the natural wonders of the region by boat, canoe or bicycle.
