Visegrad citadel
Visegrad citadel
From the capital to the north, in the fairy-tale Danube bend, the Visegrád Citadel (Fellegvár) was built on such a hill, from which one has an overwhelming view of the country. At that time, people probably knew why they built here. Not to mention that there are numerous opportunities for hiking and cycling in the region, but you can also take a boat trip to Esztergom or Budapest. In the castle, a panopticon presents how people used to live in the past. But also the ruins can be very picturesque. In 1325 Charles I moved his residence to Visegrád. Already in 1335 the castle of Visegrád was a symbol of regional cooperation. As the seat of the Hungarian king, the place was then the scene of a summit meeting of the kings of Poland, Bohemia and Hungary. These agreed to cooperate closely in the areas of politics and trade, thus inspiring their successors in the 1990s to lead the region jointly into the EU.
