Old Cathedral Linz

Built by the Jesuits in the years 1669-1683 according to the plans of P.F. Carlone. It became an episcopal church (cathedral) when Joseph II. Linz became a diocese. In 1909 the Jesuits returned. It stands at the southern end of the main square, next to the former Jesuit College. Anton Bruckner worked here as cathedral organist from 1856-1868. The organ was built according to plans by Anton Bruckner and has been preserved until today.

In 2023 the Jesuits will withdraw from the church and the Ukrainian religious community will take over the church. The Bruckner organ can be reached via the Bruckner Staircase, with interesting details about the life and work of Anton Bruckner. The staircase and the organ can be experienced during guided tours by the Austria Guides Linz.
Especially in 2024, look out for sound events in the course of the Anton Bruckner Year (200th birthday).
