The Primatial Palace was built on the order of Cardinal Joseph Count of Batthyány as the most magnificent and largest manorial seat in the city. The classicist palace from the 18th century witnessed the signing of the Peace of Bratislava, which was concluded after the Three Emperors Battle at Austerlitz, which Napoleon I won. This happened during the golden years of the then capital of Hungary shortly before it lost this status. Occasionally the palace provided accommodation for the kings after the coronation ceremony. Since 1903 it has been the town hall and houses a unique collection of six English tapestries from the 17th century. The representative first floor is open to the public and is considered the biggest tourist attraction. It is here that the beautiful Hall of Mirrors is located, where concerts are held and marriages take place. The palace can be visited daily except Mondays between 10:00 - 17:00.
