Kelheim Liberation Hall
Kelheim Liberation Hall
Towering high above Kelheim is the Befreiungshalle (Hall of Liberation) commissioned by King Ludwig I in commemoration of the wars of liberation against Napoleon. Designed by Leo von Klenze in the ancient Roman style, the imposing building was opened in 1863 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Leipzig. Inside, 34 white marble victory goddesses by Ludwig Schwanthaler join hands in a victorious round dance.
